## Purpose

Checks a date across 246 country/territory codes using a pinned OpenWorkdays national-scope public-holiday reference, country weekend rules and explicit working-weekend dates, with estimated/observed flags and non-authority limits.

**Use when:** You need broad 2026-2028 working-day reference coverage and accept national-scope open-derived semantics rather than a direct authority calendar.

**Do not use when:** You need an official direct authority, a regional/employer/bank/exchange calendar, a legal determination, or a date outside 2026-2028; use the official China/UK package or the CLDR baseline as appropriate.

## Example user requests

- Is 2026-10-26 a working day in Australia using the broad national reference?
- Check 2027-02-25 in Saudi Arabia and show whether the holiday date is estimated.

## Output

| Field | Type | Unit | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `territory` | string |  | Normalized uppercase country code. |
| `territory_name` | string | | Calcgrid display name; TW is displayed as 中国台湾省 while the machine code remains TW. |
| `source_territory_name` | string |  | Raw country name from the hash-pinned OpenWorkdays source catalogue. |
| `weekday` | string |  | Gregorian weekday. |
| `is_working_day` | boolean | | True when the date is neither a source country weekend nor an included public-holiday event. |
| `weekend_days` | string_list |  | Weekend convention supplied by the source country file. |
| `working_weekend_day` | boolean | | True when the source explicitly marks a weekend date as an official working day. |
| `holiday_names` | string_list |  | Included national-scope public-holiday names on the date. |
| `holiday_observed` | boolean | | True when an included event is marked observed by the source. |
| `holiday_estimated` | boolean | | True when an included event is marked estimated by the source. |
| `holiday_policy` | string |  | National-scope events with source observed/estimated flags preserved. |
| `calendar_scope` | string |  | National reference plus country weekend and explicit working-weekend dates. |
| `calendar_profile` | string |  | global-working-day-reference. |
| `substitute_day_policy` | string |  | Source flags are preserved; no new substitute-day rule is inferred. |
| `source_quality` | string |  | Open derived reference, not a direct national authority feed. |
| `dataset_version` | string |  | Pinned OpenWorkdays snapshot version. |
| `coverage_start` | date |  | First supported date. |
| `coverage_end` | date |  | Last supported date. |
| `source_url` | string |  | Pinned OpenWorkdays source index. |

## Formula

`is_working_day = not source_weekend(date) and not source_public_holiday(date, country); explicit source working-weekend dates override the weekend classification`

Resolve the pinned country weekend convention, explicit working-weekend dates and source holiday events. Preserve observed/estimated flags; do not infer new substitute days or regional closures.

## Example

- Australia National Day: inputs `{"date":"2026-10-26","territory":"AU"}` → `{"is_working_day":true,"holiday_names":[]}`

```
## Limitations
You need an official direct authority, a regional/employer/bank/exchange calendar, a legal determination, or a date outside 2026-2028; use the official China/UK package or the CLDR baseline as appropriate. Resolve the pinned country weekend convention, explicit working-weekend dates and source holiday events. Preserve observed/estimated flags; do not infer new substitute days or regional closures. All values are computed from the formula above; no measurement or live data is involved.
## FAQ
**Is this an official national calendar?**
No. It is a broad open-derived reference; verify material decisions against the responsible authority.
**Are observed days inferred?**
No. The snapshot's observed flag is preserved, but Calcgrid does not infer any new substitute day.
**Does it include regional holidays?**
No. It is national-scope reference data and country notes explain known regional gaps.
